RUDA stands for Ravi Urban Development Authority, which was established in 2020 by the Ravi Urban Development Authority Act. The project RUDA will change the face of Lahore in such a manner that it will make the largest city on the river Ravi, which will cover approximately 110,000 acres. This work aims to solve three challenges that thousands of people around the globe face: overpopulation, pollution, and lack of freshwater. It also help improve the quality of the environment in the city that all its inhabitants will live in.
Forty-six kilometres (alongside the River Ravi) covered by RUDA will boost the development of a new city. By developing 110,000 acres, the city aims to have a population of up to 10 million, which would make it one of the largest cities on Pakistan’s riverfront. It is now essential to start the Ravi River restoration plan, as it has suffered neglect and various environmental issues for a long time. The RUDA Map was created to address these shortcomings by showcasing a healthy, vibrant city that is also environmentally friendly. The RUDA wants to turn the urban areas of the province into places that are:
Proper planning at the metropolitan level for the long term is crucial for effective management of city development. Urbanisation has led to many changes in cities’ economic and physical features over the years. Cities have grown far differently from how the land use plan predicted.
The route connects from 5 km downstream of Syphon, goes to the Kala Shah Kaku Interchange, and eventually to the M-2 Interchange. Off the M-2 Interchange in the west, go towards Lahore Sheikhupura Faisalabad Road, passing by Javaid Nagar and then proceed along the same road until you reach Jaranwala Road near Langiyan da Thattha. Follow Jaranwala Road until it ends in Sharqpur City, and you’ll see the Upper Chennab Canal meeting the Ravi River.
The canal passes through a housing scheme named Sukh Chayn Gardens on Multan road where it intersects with a branch of the Ravi River, the Hudiara Drain.
Multan Road starts near Sukh Chayn Garden Housing Scheme and extends to Babu Sabu Toll Plaza, which is close to Thokar Niaz Baig M-2 Motorway interchange. Spanning from Babu Sabu Toll Plaza on the left, the Run corridor runs under Bund Road, stretching past Saggia Wala Bridge on Lahore Ring Road (LRR-20) and ending up at Quaid-e-Azam Interchange LRR and up to BRB.
Many of these housing societies have gained RUDA’s approval to begin their land development work. The societies are sorted by the type of approvals they got from RUDA:
This stage is when developers get the first approval to design and plan how they will build. The government has accepted requests for PPP from the listed Ruda approved societies in Lahore:
RUDA has approved the road layouts, water systems and sewerage networks for these projects. It has been decided that these housing schemes are ready for the technical stage:
Following the receipt of this final approval, it is evident that the housing schemes meet all the required specifications. Final sanction has been given to the following residential societies:
The RUDA project is embedded with a number of essential improvements and all of them are an indication of its investment in sustainability and improved city life.
Maskan-e-Ravi will offer homes for purchase to people from every background, providing them with a variety of housing options. The goal of this project is to provide today’s comforts and easy living while efficiently utilising the environment’s resources.
The New Persian Chahar Bagh building design is exceptional in Iran because it mimics the design of Persian gardens. Creating a calm atmosphere involves blending a luxurious apartment with natural elements. This project examines the display and degree of presence where natural areas intersect with populated zones.
The primary aim when developing the Enclave project proposals is to include ‘Class A’ living and business spaces. They work to attract individuals and groups seeking comfortable places to live, mainly due to the advanced infrastructure.
As part of its planning, the city has designated large areas of green land and spacious grounds, all of which have been selected for their environmental friendliness. These green belts will form the core of the city, where healthy and environmentally healthy living of the citizens would be promoted.
In line with its vision, RUDA seeks to connect Lahore with the rest of the world and makes it a vibrant city in terms of the economy. The city will be attractive as it will usher new ideas into the economy and optimism among the investors, both locally and geographically.
The innovation city that will be developed by RUDA will provide an exclusive environment to the startups that belong to the technology and media industries. This area has been established to foster the growth and development of new technologies, thereby strengthening ideas and promoting economic prosperity.
The Ravi knowledge front is a place where people and businesses develop in an environment designed for a growing knowledge economy. It will team up with schools to provide young people with the best teaching and experiences, preparing them for the challenges ahead.
Some of the world’s best and most qualified hospitals can be found in the city, sharing knowledge in various medical specialties. Due to this healthcare attention, people in Minnesota will have access to the best medical services.
The RUDA scheme will house all government entities in Lahore, facilitating easy collaboration between the government and the public.
The city of Lahore provides funds, facilities, professional advice, and tax concessions on businesses as a way of enhancing the economic situation of the city. The support will be useful to local businesses and will serve the economic growth of the sphere.
Important places, such as the walled city, Jahangir’s tomb, and Bara Dari, will enable the project to blend new and old architecture, creating a distinctive cultural area.
RUDA will feature multiple zones, each dedicated to a distinct aspect of urban living.
The Medical City will feature the world’s most respected hospitals, providing advanced care in every medical speciality. Both government hospitals and high-standard clinics will utilise the latest planning, operations, and technology in the medical industry, helping Lahore match international health standards.
New technology-based businesses will thrive there, and people will find employment in cutting-edge facilities.
Many business opportunities will come to local and international investors thanks to this city. After the project is completed and operational, the full potential of the dedicated commercial town will be realised.
The primary reason for developing this city is to consolidate all of Lahore’s government offices in a single location. After the Governmental City is created, all these institutes will appear on one single website that is open to the public.
Green strips that penetrate the city, known as ecological corridors, will be a central part of the city’s structure. The city’s eco-ponds, wetlands, wildlife sanctuaries, theme parks, botanical gardens, algae ponds, and commercial Green Boulevard all contribute to preserving nature. There will be an ecological corridor connecting the waterfront promenade and the green belt, both of which will extend to the River Ravi.
The city’s design will support environmentally sound redevelopment by featuring green belts along its open spaces, known as the Ecological Corridor. Eco-ponds, wetlands, wildlife sanctuaries, theme parks, botanical gardens and algae ponds will be part of the plains, where wide green commercial boulevards and major roads will also be found. Sending development to greenbelt areas allows us to make more use of our costly schools, hospitals and roads. By connecting the promenade with the green belt as an Ecological Corridor, the Ravi River is protected. Additionally, there will be a sports city, among other amenities.
Tourism and Entertainment City will soon be a valued landmark in Lahore, chosen to host a variety of community-organised events, exhibitions and conferences. By offering more urban chances, this cultural city will boost tourism and ecotourism with visits to historic villages and cultural spots located along the rivers.
Eastern Housing stands out as the best society because it provides well-paved roads, stable utilities and green spaces to make your living enjoyable and hassle-free. There are advanced features in the community, such as constant security and a peaceful setting that encourages a relaxed way of life. Eastern Housing Lahore provides both families and investors the convenience of affordable, accessible and growing property options.
RUDA is helping to create a more eco-friendly Lahore where residents enjoy access to first-rate amenities. Because RUDA chooses specific housing societies, its vision is reflected in all its residential and commercial projects. Since society apartments approved by RUDA offer a better way of life and pay well, they attract a wide range of people interested in housing or investment.
By contributing to RUDA’s endorsed urban projects, you can earn potential benefits and help shape the city’s development. The RUDA project aims to surpass regular public projects in rebuilding Lahore. In essence, RUDA is addressing major global problems, including a lack of space, excessive waste, and limited water resources, and is attempting to create a city that can value Sind’s traditions while incorporating today’s technology.
